What are Hard Enamel Pin Badges?

Hard enamel pin badges involve using stamped metal filled with enamel, then meticulously polished. Unlike soft enamel badges with raised metal and recessed enamel, hard enamel badges boast a smooth, polished surface, exuding a premium and professional feel.

The process involves:

  • Design: Creating a detailed badge design, incorporating text and images either digitally or by hand.
  • Die-Stamping: Utilising computer-controlled milling machines to engrave the design onto a metal block, forming a metal die.
  • Enameling: Using the die to stamp the design onto a metal sheet, cutting it into badge shapes. A thin layer of enamel is applied and fired in a kiln, bonding it to the metal and hardening the enamel.
  • Finishing: Grinding, polishing, and inspecting the badge for defects post-firing. Approved badges are ready for shipment after excess enamel removal.

Innovation with Historical Roots

We’ve innovated upon the ancient Chinese metalwork technique and enhanced efficiency while achieving superior colour matching. Our modern approach to metal stamping maintains the essence of traditional cloisonné, providing flexibility and precision for your project requirements.

Greater Flexibility + Longevity

The final finish of our badges mirrors the cloisonné technique, yet modern methods grant us greater flexibility, saving time and costs without compromising on detail. Our hard enamel pin badges are remarkably smooth, expertly polished, and built to endure.

For badges with raised metal and recessed enamel, explore our soft enamel collection here.
